ABSTRACT

——The study aimed to find out the effects on pupil performance with the use of English vis a vis mother tongue in teaching mathematics. The study utilized the experimental method of research. It is experimental insofar as study used Quasi-Experimental Design 10 or the PretestPosttest Control and Experimental Group Design. The statistical methods used were arithmetic mean, t –test for independent samples, and t-test for correlated samples. The study revealed that the strategy used in teaching mathematics to the grade one pupils in the experimental group is more effective compared to the strategy used in teaching the control group.
